Well Woman Exams Q & A
What is a well-woman exam?
A well-woman exam is preventive care to assess all aspects of the female reproductive health. Well-woman exams are recommended annually, but if you have gynecological concerns such as excessive menstruation, breast pain, urinary complaints, menopausal symptoms, pelvic pain, at any time during the year, you should visit Dr. Brougher or Laurie for an evaluation of those concerns.
Your well-woman exam involves various tests and a detailed discussion with Dr. Brougher or Laurie. This is your chance to ask any questions and update your provider regarding your medical history.
What can I expect during my well-woman exam?
Your well-woman exam begins with a physical exam where your provider willr typically examine your:
- Weight
- Breasts
- Abdomen
- Thyroid gland
- Blood pressure
You may also have a urine test and labwork may be ordered to check for anemia, thyroid function, glucose, liver panel, and cholesterol. These are optional tests that are recommended.
